each reception and yard gained after
"THE CATCH," Art moved closer to
Canton, Ohio, and enshrinement into
the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
He was the only player in NFL
history to surpass 900 career
receptions until being passed by
Jerry Rice on the final week of the
'95 regular season. His 940 career
receptions in 16 seasons will be the
barometer by which all other NFL
receivers will be judged. His 12,721

He caught a
pass in 183 consecutive regular
season games, which is first on the
all-time list. Art holds Redskin
club records for most receptions in
a season (106), most receptions in a
game (13, twice), and most combined
net yards (12,358).
At Syracuse
University, Art was a triple threat,
setting records with 102 receptions
for 1,644 yards, rushing for 1,140
yards, and gaining 1,105 yards in
returns for a total of 3,889 yards.
Art never missed a game or a
practice in four seasons at
Syracuse.
Those who
know Art Monk will tell you that his
fantastic athletic career is not
really surprising because he is so
dedicated to excellence in every
aspect of his life. Honored as one
of the 1992 Washingtonians of the
Year, Art was selected because of
his commitment to help area children
through several local progams.
