Bobby
Doerr was a slick-fielding, hard
nosed player for the great Boston
Red Sox teams of the late 1930's and
1940's. Doerr teamed up with fellow
All Stars Ted Williams and Dom
DiMaggio to form the nucleus of
those teams, Boston's finest since
their World Series days in the early
part of the century and until they
began to challenge for the World
Series in the late 1960's and
1970's. No less an authority than
Williams himself dubbed Doerr "the
silent captain of the Red Sox"
during those days, and Doerr, to
this day, is loved throughout New
England...>>>Book

than 2B, he retired after the 1951
season with a .288 lifetime batting
average, 223 home runs, 1247 RBI and
nine All-Star Game selections. He
was also a well-respected fielder.
