Costas has been one
of the most valuable assets at NBC
since he joined the network in 1980.
He has covered Major League
Baseball, the NFL, the NBA, and
college basketball. Costas has
hosted just about every major
sporting event, including numerous
World Series, Super Bowls, NBA
Championships and most notably, the
1992 Summer Olympic Games in
Barcelona, where he served as the
network’s prime-time host and deftly
anchored more than half of NBC’s 161

From August 1988
through January 1994 he hosted his
own late-night interview television
program on NBC, “Later with Bob
Costas,” which won an Emmy for
Outstanding Informational Series. In
1994, Costas expanded his
broadcasting duties at NBC to
include NBC News. He currently
contributes segments to a variety of
News programs, including the “Bob
Costas Interview” on “Dateline NBC”
and “Today.” Costas was also a
frequent contributor to the news
magazine “Now with Tom Brokaw and
Katie Couric.”
Costas also served as
the prime-time anchor of the
network’s coverage of the 1996
Summer Olympics in Atlanta. While
attending Syracuse University,
Costas began his broadcasting career
in 1974 at WSYR-TV and Radio, the
student stations. He later joined
KMOX Radio in St. Louis, working as
a play-by-play voice of the ABA
Spirits of St. Louis. He then went
on to handle regional NFL and NBA
assignments for CBS Sports, while
acting as the radio voice of
University of Missouri basketball
from 1976 to 1981. Costas, a native
New Yorker, now lives in St. Louis
with his wife Randy, their son,
Keith, and daughter, Taylor.
