·         Completed high school in 1977 and graduated (with honors) from the State University of New York at Alfred, with an associate's degree in Mechanical Engineering.

·         Drove modifieds from 1980-1984.

·         Won 7 modified races and the Stafford, CT Motor Speedway Track Championship in 1984.

·         Won coveted Modified Race of Champions at Pocono Raceway in 1985.

·         Made NASCAR Busch Series debut in 1985 with Robert Gee, winning 3 of 13 races.

·         Won 5 races and 16 pole positions in 73 starts in the NASCAR Busch series.

·         Runner-up for 1986 NASCAR Busch Grand National Series Championship - finished 20 points behind 1st place.

·         Named NASCAR Busch series most popular driver in 1987.

·         Made NASCAR Winston Cup debut in 1986 World 600, driving for Rick Hendrick (started 32nd , finished 18th).

·         Won pole for Winston open in 1987 driving for Hoss Ellington.

·         Began driving full-time NASCAR Winston Cup circuit in 1988, beginning with car owner Bud Moore.

·         1990 was named to drive for team owned by Kenny Bernstein.

·         Won first pole in 1990 (Mello Yello 500 - Charlotte).

·         Has won 5 career pole positions.

·         Best career finish in NASCAR Winston cup points - 12th in 1990 - with nine Top Ten finishes.

·         Won the NASCAR Winston Cup race at North Wilkesboro Speedway, NC in 1990.

·         Drove in 29 races, with a third and fourth place finish, 11 top 10 finishes in all.

·         Scored nine Top Ten finishes, including three Top Fives, won two poles and finished 20th in Winston Cup points 1993.

·         In 1994, his final year with drag racer, Kenny Bernstein, car owner, finished 19th in Winston Cup points.

·         Finished 2nd in inaugural 1994 Brickyard 400 at famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

·         Purchased Junior Johnson team after driving the 1995 season for Junior. Finished in Top Ten twice and started on front row once, finished 20th in Winston Cup points.

·         1996 being first year as owner/driver, had one top 10 and finished 24th in Winston cup points.

·         Had two Top Ten finishes and finished 27th in Winston Cup points in 1997.

·         Finished 25th in Winston Cup point standings in 1998. Started all 32 races and Earned $1 million in a season for first time in career.

·         Inducted into Modified Hall of Fame (Stafford, CT) in 1998 as one of Top 50 Modified Drivers of All Time.

·         Finished 35th in Winston cup points standings in 1999 and led three races. Earned over $1 million in winnings.

·         Inducted into Waverly, NY High Sports Hall of Fame in 2000

·         Scored season-best finish at Miami in November. Went over $1 million mark in season winnings ($1,020,659) for third straight year. Finished 35th in Winston Cup points.

·         Set fastest time for a NASCAR Winston Cup driver/car in history of Indianapolis Motor Speedway 8/4/2000 181.072 mph/49.704 Secs.
