Eddie Murray - Baltimore Orioles Hall of Famer

Consistency, durability and dominance characterized the career of Eddie Murray. One of baseball's most productive hitters from the late 1970s through the 1990s, Murray is one of only three players to have totaled both 3,000 hits and 500 home runs, joining Hank Aaron and Willie Mays. The all-time career RBI leader among switch-hitters, the three-time Gold Glove Award winner at first base was an eight-time All-Star and had six consecutive top-10 finishes in voting for the Most Valuable Player Award. Murray was a stalwart at first base for 12 seasons for the Orioles, capturing a world championship with Baltimore in 1983...Book Eddie Murray for Your Event

Born in Los Angeles on February 24, 1956, Eddie Clarence Murray exhibited big league talents at a young age. He grew up in a baseball family, with brother Rich also making the major leagues (as a member of the San Francisco Giants) and three other brothers enjoying minor league careers. As a star player at Locke High School, Murray shared the dugout with fellow Hall of Famer Ozzie Smith, who preceded Murray's election to the Cooperstown shrine one year earlier.

On September 6, Murray clubbed his 500th career home run; he became the third player in history to reach both that milestone and the 3,000-hit club, joining the elite Hall of Fame company of Hank Aaron and Willie Mays.

After the season, Murray became a free agent for the fourth time in his career and decided to move on to a different team for the third time. The 40-year-old veteran signed with the Anaheim Angels, but soon struggled with injuries and was given his release on August 14. The Dodgers signed him six days later, assigned him to their Triple-A team at Albuquerque, and then placed him on the big league roster at the tail end of the season. Used strictly as a pinch-hitter, Murray picked up two hits in seven at-bats off the bench. On October 30, Murray was granted free agency, but he elected to retire, having achieved eight All-Star Game selections in his 21 seasons.
