In December, 1984, Scott easily won
his first World Professional
Competition, skating his Olympic
Exhibition program to "Amazing
Grace" for his artistic program.
That was where he debuted a new
trick he learned and would become
famous for--the backflip...>>> Book

Scott won a few pro competitions,
including the 1990 Open
Professional, a surprise win at the
1992 Diet Coke Championships. Scott
had a very messy technical program
that put him way behind--but he came
back with a rousing rendition of
"Battle Hymn of the Republic" for
his artistic program that vaulted
him to the lead. Probably the win he
treasures the most and certainly his
fans remember best was his surprise
win at the first Gold Championships
in 1994, where he beat both Brian
Botany and Viktor Petrenko, leading
both the technical program with a
spirited rendition of "In the Mood"
and "Walk this Way" for the artistic
program.
When the IS allowed professionals to
reinstate for eligible competition
(known as the Botany rule because of
his determined campaigning for such
a move) --Scott reinstated as an
eligible for the 1993-94 season. as
a gesture of support . The only
competitions he entered as an
eligible were pro ams--but he did
very well at those. In 1992 he
worked to improve his jumps --even
bringing back the triple flip--a
jump he had never done well as an
amatuer and had not done since going
pro. He had hoped to become the
oldest man to do a triple axel but
he never got enough consistency with
that jump to put it in a program.
Although Scott had limited success
in professional skating
competitions, audiences could always
look forward to a good show in any
competition he entered and you could
never count him out--in 1995 he even
beat younger eligible skaters in the
1995 Metropolitan Open. Other pro
comps he has won includes the
Legends Competition (1995 & 96), Fox
Rock & Roll (95, 96 & 97) 1994
Canadian Professional Championships,
96 Great Skate Debate and 1998
People's Choice.
