In 1996, amidst speculation that she was too old
to compete successfully in the
sport, she refused to accept any
limitations.
Shannon had set her goal and was
determined to follow through. That
summer she made history both leading
the United States Women’s gymnastics
team to its first gold medal and
bringing home the first American
gold on balance beam.
Shannon
did not accept limits during her
gymnastics career and refuses to
accept them today. Drawing on her
