players and fans for his sunny
disposition, George "Sparky"
Anderson was adept at managing
diverse personalities. The only
skipper in history to win a World
Series in both the National and
American leagues, he compiled 2,194
victories over a 26-year career with
the Reds and Tigers. His win total
is third all-time among managers,
trailing Hall of Famers
Connie Mack and
John McGraw. He was twice
selected as Manager of the Year by
the Baseball Writers' Association of

Sparky Anderson is the all-time
leader in managerial wins for both
Cincinnati and Detroit. Anderson was
863-586 (.596) with the Reds and
1,331-1,248 (.516) with the Tigers.
He was the first manager to garner
800 wins with two different
franchises. He was also the first
manager to win 100 games in one
season in both the National and
American leagues, and the first to
be named Manager of the Year in each
league.
Sparky was named to Baseball's Hall
of Fame in 2000 by the Committee on
Baseball Veterans.
